This project began with a dilapidated house built in 1921 on a large lot in a beautiful suburban neighborhood. Changes were extensive. The original
3,000-square-foot house was enlarged by 1,500 square feet. The carport was demolished, and replaced with an attached three-car garage with a new master suite above. Inside, rooms were gutted and reconfigured. Even the garden was entirely redesigned. Tucked at the back of the site, linked to the house by a trellised walkway, is a charming guest house comprised of a main room plus an entry vestibule, bathroom and small kitchen. The dormered ceiling, exposed beams, and painted wood paneling add to its charm. The project’s comfortable, delightful interiors were designed by the client, and reflect her love of color and and deft handling of materials and patterns.
